Petrus Meindl appears in old documents as the first shoemaker in Kirchanschöring. Since then, there has been an unbroken record of at least one Meindl working as a shoemaker in Kirchanschöring.
Lukas Meindl is a self-employed shoemaker and lays the foundations for his family business, which has continued to expand ever since. It has also carried out all types of tailoring work for many decades.
He starts making all types of leather clothing from motorbike leathers through to traditional leather jackets and lederhosen. Everything they used and needed is made in-house. They develop the necessary expertise and teach themselves the processing techniques.
Manufacturing restarts at the end of the 2nd World War. Leather clothing is largely produced to order because the materials were almost impossible to source in the post-War economy.
Handmade shoes produced in-house start to be sold by other retailers. Participation in the shoe exhibition in Munich. The Meindl name appears in the shoe market for the first time. The market is sounded out, looking for new niches. Ski boots, work shoes and mountaineering boots are viewed as an opportunity. The company starts to specialise, and production is ramped up gradually but continuously.
Hannes Meindl, a trained shoemaker, follows his brother into the firm. They work together to build up the company. New products are designed, and new markets opened up. Hannes Meindl designs a new clothing range and launches it successfully onto the market.
After Lukas Meindl’s death, the sons Alfons and Hannes have equal shares in the company. Together they devise strategies and new products which they present at international trade fairs. Both shoes and leather clothing develop a worldwide following, and production at Kirchanschöring is ramped up continuously. The two bothers run the family business supported by their sister, Marianne Hausmanninger.
Because there aren’t enough seamstresses locally and more and more people around the world want to buy Meindl products, the company looks for new production facilities abroad. Start of contract production in neighbouring countries. Italy and Austria are the first to be recruited.
Hubert Hillmayer reaches the roof of the world, Mount Everest, wearing Meindl shoes.
Collaboration with internationally successful artist Hubert von Goisern. A joint collection is launched in summer 1994.
International Design Prize at the Munich trade fair is awarded to Markus Meindl.
The company is split into the Shoe division and the Clothing division. Lukas and Lars Meindl take over the Shoe division. Hannes and Markus Meindl take over the Clothing division. Up to that point there are almost 500 people working at the Kirchanschöring site for clothing and shoes.
Start of collaboration with BMW motorcycles. Meindl starts to produce and develop motorcycle clothing for BMW.
Alfons Meindl verstirbt nach kurzer Krankheit einen Tag nach seinem 77. Geburtstag.
Start of collaboration with Porsche. Meindl starts to develop and manufacture the fashion collection for Porsche Design.

Markus Meindl designs and makes the first Meindl sofa for his own home... just because he needed one. This is followed by the start of hotel furnishings production. Since then, many different special furniture and interiors styles and lines have been produced.

“Big Bang Bavaria” is the result of collaboration with luxury watch manufacturer HUBLOT. It is made from bronze and appears with two rugged hand-embroidered deerskin watchstraps.

2019 sees our “World of Meindl” open its doors at Platzl 4, Linzergasse, right in the heart of Salzburg. - The Meindl flagship store in Salzburg. To celebrate the opening, Meindl Bekleidung donates € 50,000 to the "Save the Wildlife" fund for preserving and protecting flora and fauna in our local region.
